Zelma Ruth Josey Hampton

 

Services for Zelma Ruth Hampton, 87, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clifton F. Igo officiating and the Rev. Kurtis Gaddy assisting.

Burial will be in
Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

She died
Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Lakeside Rehabilitation Center in Lubbock.

She was born
June 19, 1912, in Bosque County. She married Grover Edward Hampton on Nov. 20, 1937, in Panhandle. He died March 28, 1981. They moved to the Lubbock community in 1940 and farmed for several years in the Slide community. She worked in the home health care field and volunteered as a teacher's aide at Chris Harwell Elementary School for many years. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and attended Southcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Minnie Ruth Gaddy of
Lubbock; a son, J.E. Irving of Burleson; three sisters, Jo Dobbs of Coleman, Johnnie Murphy of Mineral Wells and Janice Borges of Tracy, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
