Thomas Marion Booth 19 Aug 1937 – 2 Apr 2015
Funeral services were held Thursday April 9, 2015 at Saulters Moore Chapel in Prentiss, MS
for Mr. Thomas Marion Booth who passed away on April 2, 2015 at the Merit Health River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS. Interment
followed at Whitesand Cemetery in Prentiss. Saulters Moore
Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.
Rev. James Booth and Rev. Dale Holloway officiated. Pall
bearers were: Earl Mikell, Cary Vaughn, Willie Davis,
Rob Bredheisen, John Slater and John Hutto
Marion was born August 19, 1937
in Jefferson Davis County, MS. He was the son of I.W. “Bill” Booth and Lillian Slater Booth. He served in the Air Force
in active duty for a short time in 1961 and served in the Air Guard for many
years. He worked as a public school teacher for 30 plus years. He was a member
of Whitesand Baptist Church.
Marion Booth’s occupational devotion to education
began after earning his bachelor’s degree in Education from The
University of Mississippi in 1959. His teaching career began in Silver Creek, MS
before meeting his wife while teaching in Greenville, Mississippi.
During summer breaks when teaching fourth grade at Pickett
Elementary in Jacksonville, Florida, he earned his master’s
degree in Education from Mississippi
State University. After moving back to Prentiss, he taught at Prentiss
Middle School before accepting the position of Principal at Prentiss
Elementary School in 1980. He retired from Prentiss Elementary in August of
1997.
He is survived by his wife, Lenoir Josey Booth of New
Hebron, MS. His son, Steven Booth of Memphis, TN. Four nieces and nephews. His sister, Ann Holloway (Dale) of Florence, MS and his brother, James “Jim” Booth (Edith) of Brandon, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
