MARY LOUISE JOSEY WHITEHURST, 91, of Florence, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 in a local health care facility.

Ms. Whitehurst was born in
Lynchburg, SC, a daughter of the late George Eugene and Mary Kathleen Hutto Josey. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Wisteria Garden Club, President of the Ladies Auxiliary United Transportation and Past President of Ellison Caper's Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Four "H" Leader and Director of the Florence Chapter of the American Red Cross.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of sixty-six years, James Hilliard Whitehurst, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Josey Helmley and a brother, George Eugene Josey, Jr.

Ms. Whitehurst is survived by her daughters, Sterling (Levy) Sadler of Effingham, SC and Dottie Register of Florence, SC; her grandchild, Christian (Chad) Stone and her great-granddaughter, Casey McKenna Stone, both of Florence, SC; and her sister, Jean Josey Jones of Summerville, SC.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012, graveside at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire Dowling Funeral Home.
