Leila Josey, 58, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Leila was born in Los Angeles, California on August 21, 1965 to the late Mary Katherine (Williams) Dawson and Eladio Amador. Leila moved to Evansville in 1978 and shortly after met the love of her life, Mark Josey. In 1980 her daughter Katherine Josey was born. Leila worked at Goodwill until 2003 and then became a full-time caregiver for her husband, Mark.

Leila was a lover of all music and loved to play cards and spend time with her family and friends.

Leila is survived by her daughter, Katherine "Kitty" Josey of Evansville, IN; sisters, Terry Hawes of Louisville, KY, Robin Dawson of Evansville, IN, Margaret "JoJo" Dawson of Evansville, IN; brother, Thomas Cox of Evansville, IN; several nieces and nephews; and by her best friend, Cris Pressley.

Leila was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Mark Josey; by her parents; nephew, Jason Aarone Banks Jr.; and by her niece, McKinsey E. Martin.

A celebration of Leila's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Kim Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Leila will be deeply missed by all she met and called family or friend.
