William Lenoir (1751-1839) was lieutenant in
Cleveland's company, Rutherford's expedition against the Indians. He commanded a company at King's Mountain, where he was wounded. He was born in Brunswick County, Va.; died in Wilkes County, Ga.
[p.204] Waightstill Avery (1745-1821) was a member of the Mecklenburg Convention and a signer of the Declaration. He was commissioner to treat with the Cherokee Indians, and as colonel of militia active in the defense of the State. He served in the House of Commons, 1781-82, where he was subsequently chosen speaker. He was born in
Groton, Conn.; died in Burke County, N. C.
