Julia Mae Josey,  7 Jul 192813 Oct 2022

Ms. Julia May Josey, age 94, of Washington County, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, October 13, 2022.  The funeral will be Saturday, October 15th at 3:00 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church, with Reverend Mike Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until hour of service in the Social Hall.

Ms. Josey was the eldest of seven children born to Noah Robert Josey and Eddie Mae Smith Josey. She was the wife of the late Reverend Henry Lewis Josey and then the late Mr. Samuel C. Bridges.  She was predeceased by all of her brothers and their wives, Robert Addison Josey (Inez), William Arthur Josey (died as a child), Charlie Ralph Josey (Betty Jane), Howard Frances Josey (Omie Lee), and Hanson Gerald Josey (Betty Jean, and later Carolyn), and her sister, Peggy Ann Josey Thigpen. She is survived by Peggys Husband, Charles Thigpen.

Left to mourn her loss are her two children, Julia Diane Josey of Brookhaven, Ga and Henry Hollan Josey and his wife, Brenda Alford Josey, of Bartow; as well as three grandchildren, Henry Nicholas Josey of Dublin, Taylor C. Ford and his wife Katheryn, of Snellville and April Josey McCall and her husband, Daniel Ethan McCall of Bartow; five Great-Grandchildren: Ethan Brett McCall, Danielle Irene McCall, Olivia Marie Josey, Henry Noah McCall and Alexander James Ford.

Ms. Josey worked with the Washington County Tax Office before retirement and previously employed at Sandersville Electric and Oxford Manufacturing. Most of her life she was a farmer and rancher and enjoyed raising cows. As an avid gardener, she loved growing flowers. She was an accomplished cook, an excellent seamstress, a bookkeeper, a bird watcher of her birds, a cat lover who fed any cat lucky enough to find her home, a shrewd businesswoman, crochet enthusiast, especially enjoyed Christmas decorating and was a member of various clubs and organizations over the years. However, few of her accomplishments pleased her as much as her very special ability to be a good grandmother to two generations of appreciative grandchildren.

For over 50 years, she was a Sunday School teacher and served as the Clerk of the Josey Baptist church, as well as the Clerk/Treasurer of the Mount Vernon Baptist Association for decades.  She was invited to serve on the Georgia Baptist WMU Executive Board and as such was actively involved in the mission of WMU, as well as in the state encampments at Camp Pinnacle. She was a counselor/leader at the annual encampments of the Mount Vernon Association at Camp Reed for many years. For some 65 years, she enjoyed and was a proud and strong leader in the development and growth of Josey Baptist and was an active worker in its every undertaking.
