Janeen Curl Josey

-- — Janeen Curl Josey, 67, gracefully and peacefully passed away surrounded by family in her home at sunrise on Friday, March 22, 2013, after a courageous 13 year battle with breast cancer. She was born on July 27, 1945 in Swainsboro, Georgia to the late Ruby Nunn Curl and Johnie Curl.

She is survived by her husband, C. Ray Josey of Valdosta, her son, Mark Ryan Josey and daughter-in- law, Chrissy Arsenault Josey, of Alpharetta, Ga., her daughter, Emily Josey Hunt, of Valdosta, her grandchildren, Joshua Haren Hunt, Kimble Josey Hunt, and Laura Claire Hunt, all of Valdosta, and her brother and sister in law, Wayne and Dianne Curl, of Thompson, Ga., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Janeen grew up in
Thompson, Ga., and received her degree in Business Education from Georgia Southern University and her Masters in Business Education from the University of West Georgia. Teaching was her passion and she spent a total of 41-years in the Georgia education system, in both classroom and Central Office environments. She began her career as a Business Education teacher in Northwest Georgia, where she taught in several school systems. She received the honor of Teacher of the Year at Fairmount High School, Valdosta High School, and Valdosta City School System. She completed her career in the Superintendent’s Office, where she was the Community Relations Director for Valdosta City Schools.

In addition to her career achievements, Janeen was involved in numerous community activities. She was a Charter Member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she also served as an Elder, a Sunday School teacher, and a teacher of the Confirmands. She was also a Past Member of the Board of Directors of the
United Way, as well as the Partnership Cancer Fund. One of her community achievements was being honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in the Valdosta Rotary Club∑, she received this honor after starting the Interact Club at Valdosta High School. Janeen was also a Charter Member and Past President of the Sunrise Rotary Club.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at
10 a.m., March 25, 2013, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Valdosta, with interment to follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Richard Hart and the Reverend Walter Hobgood will officiate the services. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
