Obituary

James Lester Josey Sr. (81) of Silsbee, passed away on July 3, 2021 in Beaumont. James was born on March 19, 1940 to his parents, William Josey Sr. and Amy Guthrie-Josey in Hempstead, Texas.

James was one of thirteen children and attended and graduated from Silsbee Independent School District. We honor his sacrifice to our great Nation as he faithfully served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge. It was during his service when James met and married the love of his life, Bernice Kellogg in Omaha, Nebraska. The two were happily married for over 55 years until her passing in 2017. He was a good provider and devoted husband and father. James enjoyed horticulture and spending peaceful time outside in the garden.  He had an exceptional relationship with his grandchildren as many grandparents do. They brought a spark of life and love they only exist between the two. Though his family is saddened by their loss, James’ memory will forever remain in their hearts.

James is survived by his son, James Josey Jr. and wife, Kim; his son, William “J.J.” Josey and wife, Sue; his son, Ronald Josey and wife, Barbara; his daughter, Sharon Darby; his son, Thomas Josey; his son, Johnathon Josey and wife, Carolyn; his grandchildren, Dustin F., Crystal, Candice, Dustin J., Brandy, Bryceton, Triniti, Ethan, Samuel, Angela, and Seth; his many great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas; his sisters, Ethel, Bernice, Betty, Sydney, and Sybil; his numerous nieces and nephews; along with other loving family members and friends.
