Jim Josey Temple, 73, passed away at the family farm outside Scotland Neck on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Marshallberg. The Revered Doug Wagner will be presiding.

Jim was born in Edgecombe County on February 9, 1937, and spent most of his life on the family farm. After graduating from Scotland Neck High School, he attended Duke University and majored in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant. After leaving the Navy, Jim returned to the family farm and spent over 30 years continuing his passion for working the land and raising livestock. He contributed to the local community in many ways, including serving as a trustee for Halifax Community College. Jim retired to his current home, the downeast community of Marshallberg. He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and continued his passion for service in supporting the local community.


Jim was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Douglas Temple, Jr, and his mother, Mary Powell Josey. He is survived by his wife, Ginny Temple; a brother, T. Douglas Temple III and his wife, Jo; a niece, Mary Jo Temple; a nephew, Tom Temple and his wife Crystal and great niece; daughters, Bedie R. Kohake and husband, Ron and Laura R. Warren; four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
