James Jackson "Jack" Josey

 

ATMORE, Ala. - James J. "Jack" Josey, Sr., 86 years old, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in Atmore, Ala. Born on May 9, 1921, to Thomas Homer and Elizabeth Shaw Josey in Lee County, S.C. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salamonie AO-26 during WW II as BMLE. He was a member of St. Mathew United Methodist Church, charter member of St. Mathew United Methodist Men's in Bishopville, S.C., member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and a life member of Lucknow Masonic Lodge # 212.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Josey and Keith Josey; sisters, Ruby Gardner, Margie Beattie and Mary Elizabeth Taylor, and one grandson, Lawrence Russell Bryson.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Mary Lee Roscoe Josey; son, James J. "Jack" Josey and wife, Mary, all of Hartsville, S.C.; daughter, Susan Smith and husband Clint of Atmore, Ala.; grandsons, Shaw Brayson, Sr. of Camden, S.C., Mike Josey of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter, Leslie Bryson of VanLear, Ky.; great-grandsons, Jamie Josey of Williston, S.C., Shaw Brayson, Sr. of Lumberton, N.C., Jackson Bryson of VanLear, Ky.; great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Bryson of Lumberton, N.C.

A memorial service will be held
Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Mathew United Methodist Church, Bishopville, S.C., officiated by the Rev. Dewey Dean and Rev. Ricky Howell. Private burial will be held in Turkey Creek Cemetery, Turkey Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Turkey Creek Cemetery Trust,
