James Schonover Obituary
James Edward
Schonover, 88, passed away March 12, 2024. Born in Akron, where he lived
most of his life before moving to Stow.
Jim graduated from Garfield High School and the University of Akron. He retired from
the City of Akron Health Department as a Senior Accountant. He was a longtime
member of the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church and attended
Community Church of Portage Lakes. Jim volunteered with the University of Akron for 20 years,
running Porky’s Place and mentoring incoming freshmen football players. He has
an awards in his name at the university, which recognizes the athletic team
with the highest GPA.
Jim had many good
memories of vacationing with the Pleasant Hill Gang, annual family reunions on
the Fourth of July, and family fishing trips to Canada.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Byron and Iona Schonover; brothers, Bill and Bob
Schonover.
Jim is survived by
his wife of 68 years, Sandra; daughter, Cindy (Ken) Williams, Robyn (Bob)
Schueller; son, Jim (Vicki) Schonover, Jr.; sister in law, Maryellen Schonover;
grandchildren, Joey (Julie), Jonathan, Elizabeth (Corey), Kristen, Hannah,
Jacob (Katie); five great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Donovan
Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic
Tallmadge Circle).
Memorial service
will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral
home with Pastor Mike Rybka officiating.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to the Community Church, 3260 Cormany Rd., Coventry Twp, OH 44319
