George Wendell Sloan Obituary
George Wendell Sloan, 71, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Iredell Memorial
Hospital. He was born on April 11, 1936, to the late Chester Cornish and Maggie Mullis Sloan. Mr.
Sloan was a retired truck driver and also served in the U.S. Army. He was
preceded in death by his parents, two half-sisters, Viola Whitlock and Ella
Holcomb; and four brothers, E.E. Sloan, Kermit Sloan, Milton Sloan and Cornish
Sloan; and two half-brothers, Bander Sloan and Floyd
Sloan. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Hilda Josey Sloan of the home; three
daughters, Doris (Darrel) Reavis, and Janice
"Jan" Sloan, both of Hamptonville, and Denise Roark (fiancee Alton Clifton), of Statesville; a son, Dale
(Cynthia) Sloan, of Hamptonville; grandchildren Rhiannon Roark, Ethan Sloan and
Austin Sloan; stepgrandchildren Katie and Andrew
Clifton; a sister, Wilma Godfrey, of Statesville; and a brother, Fred Sloan, of
Hamptonville. Mr. Sloan will have no public visitation. His funeral will be
conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Chris Flanagan.
Burial will follow at Hunting Creek Friends Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon
Hospice House, 2341
Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving
the Sloan family.
