Charles Edward Wallace

(September 13, 1931 - September 22, 2009)

 

U.S. Veteran Rev. Charles E. Wallace, age 78, of Ridge Road in Sandersville, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25th at 11:00am at the Davisboro United Methodist Church with burial in the Davisboro City Cemetery. Rev. Chad Watkins and Rev. Kenneth Watkins will officiate. Pallbearers will be Charlie Giles, Travis Giles, Steve Wallace, Rex Wallace, Edward Bethea, Phillip Bethea, Mark Bethea and Ashley Bethea.

 

Rev. Wallace was born in Fulton County the son of Elizabeth Hodges Wallace and the late Charles Branan Wallace. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry and a master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. Rev. Wallace also earned his master's of divinity from Emory University. Rev. Wallace was a member of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church where he served numerous appointments. For much of his career, Rev. Wallace was a bi-vocational pastor working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and later for the state workman's compensation board. He retired back to Washington County, where his ministry began, and there again led United Methodist congregations in his retirement. Rev. Wallace was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and is predeceased by his wife Betty Josey Wallace and his daughter Elizabeth Lynn Wallace.

 

Survivors are his children David B. Wallace (Cindi) of New Zion SC and Laurie S. Wallace of Sandersville, grandchildren Raina Wallace and Meghan Wallace, his mother Elizabeth Hodges Wallace of Sandersville, a sister Jeanne W. Bethea (Gene) of Sanford NC., a brother Thomas D. Wallace (Carolyn) of Sandersville and nieces and nephews.

 

The family will be at the Thomas Wallace residence 1317 Ridge Rd. Sandersville and will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
