Bernice Eleanor Safrit Josey SALISBURY – Bernice Eleanor Safrit Josey, 94, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on Nov. 25, 1922 in Rimertown, to the late John Safrit and Laura Boger Safrit. Bernice worked as a weaver for Cannon Mills until she retired from there. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and working in her flower garden. Bernice was a talented quilter and seamstress having made many quilts and clothes for her family and friends. She loved to work on puzzles and spend time with her family. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Luther Josey; two sons, Steve Josey, and Alvin Wayne Josey; a daughter, Linda Josey File; two sisters, Mary Fisher, and Mertie Cress; and two brothers, Ralph Safrit, and George Safrit. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Josey Kirby of Salisbury; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation and Service: The funeral service will be held on Wed., May 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Powles Staton Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Carlin Ours. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at Powles Staton Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the service at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 S. Main St., China Grove, NC 28023. Memorial: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146 or to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
