Alvin Leon Josey,
76, of Florence, S.C. and formerly of Statesville, died Thursday,
May 14, 2015.
He was born in Statesville and was a son of
the late John Alva and Naomi Chapman Josey. Leon served in the Air
Force Reserve from 1957 to 1962 and the N.C. Air National Guard from 1956 to
1957. He moved his family to Florence, S.C. in 1964 as a
salesman for Maintenance Supply Company of N.C. He held various positions in
sales and real estate including working part time at the Darlington Raceway
museum from 1965 until 1986, until he retired from Iron Age Safety Shoe Co.
Leon was a friend to many and loved by all.
He is survived by
three children: Mark Leon Josey (Susan) of Timmonsville, S.C., Robin Josey Allen
(Melvin) of Effington, S.C. and Darrin Scott
Josey of Savannah, Ga. Also surviving is a
sister, Patricia “Patsy” Josey Lytton (Wes) of Statesville and 2
grandchildren. Additional survivors include a nephew, David Wesley Lytton, nieces: Tina Lytton
Johnson (Scott) and Cindy Lytton Chapman (Rusty)
along with his former wife, Peggy Rumple Josey.
Graveside services
are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday,
June 6, 2015
at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Brian
Burgess officiating.
